Baby Briar's 5 Month Disney Milestone Shoot- Live Your Dream

Briar is 5 Months Old! Live Your Dream

I am trying to find the pause button. While the time we have had with Briar has been short, so much development and events have occurred since having her that every month seems like it's own year in some ways. Briar truly is a whole new baby every month, and it has been amazing getting to know her and learning about her. My biggest goal as a parent isn't to make her be someone I want her to be, but to allow her to show me who she is and allow her to flourish and follow her dreams. As you can see, this month is Tangled themed. I'm very excited to show you how I did her photoshoot, but first onto her milestone update.

Briar officially rolls both ways unassisted now! Although, her new skill rolling from back to belly has been a dangerous one. She will randomly roll, so she is no longer allowed to sit on the couch unless we are holding her. Otherwise she is on her mat on the floor for playtime so she doesn't roll off the couch! She isn't happy with this transition because she wants to play right by us, but she's slowly but surely getting used to playing on the floor.

She is teething and very slobbery. She will grab anything in sight and bring it in to her mouth, including our hands. Her hand-eye coordination is getting so much better as well. She loves her teething toys now, and loves anything cold to soothe her gums. Unfortunately her teething has created more night wakings just when we moved past her sleep regression, so that's been a major step back in sleep.

She has particular toys she really enjoys. Anything that rattles, crinkles, and has a crunchy texture she loves to play with. Those have been the most entertaining for her, and we love to watch her play.

During story time, she has learned how to turn pages as long as it is lifted enough to get her hand under. She is patient as well and will look at stare at the new page before moving onto the next. She hangs on to every word I read and truly listens. It's been a great bonding experience.

Briar is still very talkative, loving to insert her opinion in every moment. She is more whiny now, but with her teething who can blame her! We've been doing our best to comfort her while she struggles and to help her through her needs. But other than teething, she is still a very relaxed baby, able to go anywhere without stress.

This month, Ryan's mom and stepdad paid for us to go up to California for a visit. It was a wonderful time to relax and for Briar to get to know her Grammy and Grampy better. While we were there, she had her first beach and zoo visit. She did so well considering they were all day things. She absolutely loved both the beach and the zoo. Everywhere we went she was like a sponge absorbing everything around her. She LOVED feeding the giraffes and "driving" a stationary prop car (photos below). We got her a stuffed giraffe to commemorate her experience and that has become her toy that goes everywhere with her. She loves her "GG Giraffe."

"driving"              about to feed giraffes    meeting "gg giraffe"        first time at the beach

That concludes her 5 month milestone update! Now onto the photoshoot tutorial!

How I did her photoshoot:

Materials:
-Disney story book with a Tangled page
    -Cast iron frying pan
    -Pascal plush
    -Baby crown
    -Rapunzel inspired dress

Tutorial:
I started off by opening her Disney princess story book to a tangled page and put a frying pan on one end of the book to keep it open. I then took the baby crown and placed it on the top corner of the page, hiding the elastic under the cover. I put a pascal plush on the book and then added Briar in her adorable Rapunzel inspired outfit. This was once again an easy shoot to put together! I did two versions, one with a yellow bow to represent Rapunzel's hair, and one with her wearing the crown.

Tips photographing a baby:
-Set up while your baby is napping!
-Once they wake, feed them, change their diaper, then put on their outfit.
-Make it fun, have positive energy. Babies feed off you. If you are stressed, they will be.
-Get a binky that matches what you are photographing. If they get fussy at a certain point don't be afraid to get a few pictures of them with a binky.
-Photograph on the ground on their level, try different angles, get close ups, don't be afraid to move around.
-Use a squeaky toy and your voice to get them to look at the camera.
-If they are rowdy or in a grabbing phase, keep their hands busy with a toy similar to the theme.

I hope this gave some inspiration for you! Let me know in the comments what you think! Will you be trying this?
